In the latest twist, it seems that the EU is failing to reach a balanced agreement with the US on tariffs and now it’s looks like EU products will have a Tariff of 30% into USA. If that happens a tariff of 25% will apply to all US Beef imports into the European bloc.
This could directly affect us here in Europe with meat imported from the US. Prices will be pushed even higher, and I’m not sure the market can handle another 25% increase on already expensive beef especially when you have equally good (and I dare say even better) Australian beef at much more accessible prices.
I expect to see a clear shift away from US beef and more interest in 200-day grainfed programs from Australia, Argentina, and Uruguay.
Whatever happens, we’re in a good position with our ANB brand from Azul Natural Beef Argentina, and 200-day grainfed beef from Uruguay coming soon, we have the range and quality to support our clients if this trade war escalates.
Can’t wait to see what the Trump administration brings us next…
Gustavo Silveira.
