The EU is looking to delay the implementation of the anti-deforestation regulation by another year.
I believe this delay is the right move for the market. It gives both exporters and importers the time to fully understand compliance requirements, and it allows the EU to put in place a system that works in practice not just on paper.
This extra time will help avoid confusion and unnecessary disruption, while ensuring that when the regulation does take effect, all sides are ready and aligned.
For me more important than the delay is having a system that works for both producer and importer and a system that is transparent and everyone understand. In the end, that’s better for trade, for business, and for the long-term sustainability goals the regulation aims to achieve.
